This was a great experiment to participate in!! Great idea bringing this into the lead blog post. I'm glad I could be apart of it. I didn't realize how using the laugh track could make such a difference between the tv shows! This is definitely an interesting topic of discussion. I wounder if you could compare Friends to The Office without the laugh track on Friends. Would that be a fair test or does it give Friends an unfair advantage?
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! That's a very interesting question you ended your post with. I do personally think it would give Friends an unfair advantage because the show's content is built around a laugh track. Without one in the show, there would be long pauses. And, I don't think these particular pauses would employ the same awkward funniness The Office has. But, I guess we won't ever know until we watch Friends without a laugh track. So, you found The Office more funny and enjoyable. Is this because The Office has no laugh track? Or was the episode just a funnier episode? This small experiment has its flaws. It is hard to compare two completely different TV shows accurately on levels of funniness. It would make more since to compare an episode of Friends with and without a laugh track.
ReplyDeleteIt would definitely seem to suggest that if a show filmed with a laugh track could still be funnier without out it a show filmed without it would be funnier still.
ReplyDeleteI like how you incorporate the question at the end of your response "Would that be a fair test or does it give Friends an unfair advantage?". I do not think that it gives friends the unfair advantage. I found myself laughing at the actual content in friends. I did not feel that the laugh track contributed to the amount of humor I got out of the show.
